OUR TRAVELING WEEKEND + FIVE THINGS I LOVE

December 15, 2015

IMG_1307 IMG_1427 IMG_1441 IMG_1475 IMG_1485 Phew, some weekends are a doozy.

We spent most of last week in New York so Ben could spend time at the work branch there, and we also wanted to be there to attend the work Christmas banquet planned for Friday night. We traveled up on Tuesday (first flight with Ayla! she did great!) and the trip was fairly uneventful, thankfully. I was a typical first-time mom and was pretty nervous about how Ayla would do on the trip and no one wants to be the one with the crying baby on an airplane full of people, right? But she took a nap on each flight and was easily entertained when she was awake. It was our first time back to New York since we moved, and it was just really good to come in for a visit and see family and some friends!

Saturday: Our flight back to Tennessee wasn’t scheduled to leave until the afternoon, so we took the morning to relax and pack up and stop to see some family before leaving for Rochester. We had time to grab lunch at one of our favorite spots in Pittsford and then headed for the airport. Our flight had a slight delay, so we had an hour or so to wait before boarding. We finally got on the plane and made it all the way to the runway for takeoff before making a sudden turn back towards the terminal…and the impending announcement that the plane was un-flyable because of some emergency electrical button not working correctly. We de-planed and stood in line at the ticket counter to figure out our next plan, and ended up having to stay the night at a hotel in town to catch a flight home the next morning. It was frustrating to have to wait to get home, but we decided to be annoyingly positive about the whole situation, hehe. Hey, better to be delayed than to be in the air with a broken plane, right?! We holed up in the hotel room for the evening with Panera Bread takeout and watched the Heisman award ceremony and tried to get to sleep early since we had an early morning flight the next day…but between a restless baby, the marijuana smoke wafting into our room from the room next door (no joke! we called security and they came and put a stop to the college kid party going on), and doors slamming in the hallway all night, we got only a few hours of sleep.

Sunday: Our first flight took off at six o’clock am, and thankfully we made it through without any delays or issues. We had a three hour layout in Baltimore and grabbed some breakfast and tried to get some naps before our final flight to Nashville. Ayla slept in a little nest on the floor and Ben and I laid out on some chairs, and thankfully we were all able to get a little sleep. We landed in Nashville around noon and it was the best feeling to finally get back to our car and make our way home! I don’t know what it is about traveling and flying and delays and changed plans that just exhaust you, but we were exhausted! We took more naps in the afternoon and spent the evening relaxing at home. Ayla was having a rough evening and would just burst into little meltdowns for no apparent reason, bless her heart. She did good while traveling, and seemed to love all the walking around and seeing people and smiling at everyone…but I guess all the action caught up to her once we got home! But we all got a good night’s sleep and waking up in our own home in our own beds the next morning made everything seem right again.

OUR WEEKEND + FIVE THINGS I LOVE

December 07, 2015

IMG_2576 IMG_2587 IMG_2567 Saturday:: We had such a fun Saturday! Ben came home from work on Friday evening and said he was taking me out for a breakfast date on Saturday morning, and I was of course so fine with that, hehe. You know I love my breakfast dates! We started our morning at Dozen Bakery, which is a little gem of a place tucked away on a random side road. My friend, Shanna, got me started on Dozen Bakery soon after we moved and it’s just the best place! We had toasty breakfast sandwiches that were swimming in butter (it’s a french bakery, after all) and the place was quiet and Ayla sat in the car seat playing and chattering to herself while we ate and talked. We finished our breakfast and decided that we really really really wanted one of the Nashville-famous 100-hundred layer donuts from Five Daughters Bakery so we decided YOLO and spontaneously drove down to Franklin to their new brick and mortar location to stand in line with a bunch of other people to get a few of these insanely delicious pastries. We sat in the lounge area inside the old restored factory building that the bakery is in and savored our donuts and people-watched. Such a fun morning out! We stopped at the mall on our way back home so Ben could do a little shopping and then went home to our list of chores. Ben worked on staining our wooden fence in the backyard for most of the afternoon and it looks so nice to have it done! I ended up running into town with Ayla in the afternoon to make some returns and do a little Christmas shopping for Ben. Our day ended on a high note with watching our favorite college football time win the ACC conference championship and cinch their spot as the top team in the nation! It’s been a fun season, hehe.

IMG_2601 IMG_2605 IMG_2628 IMG_2626 IMG_2619 IMG_2658 Sunday:: We stayed in for the morning and then went into the city to meet some friends for lunch and also meet some of their friends who also have a baby girl who is about the same age as Ayla. We set up camp in the middle of the restaurant (tacos!) with our three high chairs and car seats and did our best at having adult conversations with babies in our laps. We brought Ayla back home after lunch for a nap and relaxed for the afternoon. Ben went into church to help with car parking and stayed for half of the service, but I ended up staying home and watching online since I’ve been fighting what feels like a head-flu for a few days now and it was hitting me again in the afternoon. Ben went for worship and then came home to watch the rest of the service with me at home. I’m downing the garlic and echinacea and drinking hot teas with spoonfuls of local honey and taking whatever else I have around my house that seems like it would be helpful to stave off a cold…any remedies??
